Learn to slice apples for pie (without a corer) in 4 easy steps!

Homemade apple pie filling in crust
For years, I made apple pie with thick apple slices and wondered why the pie slices were often missing chunks of filling. That all changed when I started slicing the apples into thinner and shorter slices.

With smaller and thinner apple slices, I’m now able to compact more apples into my classic apple pie. Now, each slice of pie is filled to the brim with homemade apple pie filling. No more awkward hollow bites.

So I thought I’d take a moment to show you exactly how to slice apples for pie (without a corer). All you need is a peeled apple (using either a peeler or paring knife), cutting board, and sharp knife.

Begin by cutting the apple in half, through the core.

Place each half, cut side down and cut in half again, through the core.

Stand each quarter slice up and cut off the core.
